Nicole Kidman's Father Dead in Hotel
Nicole Kidman's dad, Dr. Antony Kidman, is dead after a hotel room fall in Singapore, the star's rep confirmed to the Daily Mail Australia.
Kidman's publicist and friend Wendy Day told the Daily Mail on Friday, Sept. 12, "the family is in shock and is grieving. I think that some time and privacy is needed to deal with this shock and tragedy."
The Oscar winner's father was reportedly in Singapore to visit his youngest daughter Antonia. Few details about his shocking death have been released, but Singapore police told Reuters on Friday that they were currently investigating his "unnatural death."
Dr. Kidman was a respected clinical psychologist at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia. He also was the Director of the Health Psychology Unit at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. In 2005, he received the Order of Australia for his work in clinical psychology.
Attila Brungs, a colleague at the university, released a statement to Reuters on Friday mourning his passing. "It is with great sadness that we learn of Dr. Tony Kidman’s sudden passing," Brungs said. "During his 43 years at the University of Technology, Sydney, Tony has contributed greatly – as a colleague, as a researcher, and as a health practitioner. Tony will be missed by all at UTS. Our thoughts are with his family at this time."
No official statement has been released by Nicole, 47, yet. She was close to her father and last walked the red carpet with him at the Swiss Celebrate Life Ball earlier this year.
He leaves behind his wife of 50 years.
