MISSY ELLIOTT AND TIMBALAND AREN'T DOING NEW AALIYAH PROJECT

No one has contacted the two stars about contributing to the album.

There’s been a lot of confusion surrounding the development of Aaliyah’s newest posthumous album, which is reportedly being produced by Drake. Last week, the Young Money rapper finallyconfirmed his role in the project, saying that he and producer Noah "40" Shebib would take creative lead and "command" of the new record. He also mentioned that he wanted to include more artists that were essential to Aaliyah’s career, which most assumed to be Timbaland and Missy Elliott. However, the two haven't been invited and remain sensitive to how Aaliyah’s family is processing this whole ordeal.

"Although Missy and Timbaland always strive to keep the memory of their close friend alive, we have not been contacted about the project nor are there any plans at this time to participate," said Missy's longtime manager, Mona Scott-Young, in a statement. "We've seen the reports surfacing that they have been confirmed to participate but that is not the case. Both Missy and Timbaland are very sensitive to the loss still being felt by the family, so we wanted to clear up any misinformation being circulated."

For many Aaliyah fans, the inclusion of Missy and Tim in the project would lend validity to the work given that the songwriting-production duo worked on the majority of Aaliyah’s most celebrated records.

Still, with Missy and Tim currently playing the sidelines and the Haughton family not fully involved, Drake and 40 have already launched some buzz around the project with the release of the single "Enough Said." Perhaps the hip hop star will reach out to the producers in the near future and all parties will be fully onboard with a project many Aaliyah fans would happily support.
