Azealia Banks Boycotts Dolce & Gabbana's 'Racist' Summer 2013 Collection

New York native and female emcee Azealia Banks has never been afraid to speak her mind, even if it gets her in some hot water from time to time. But this time she’s not beefing with fellow rappers like T.I and Iggy Azalea. Instead, Ms. Banks’ gripe is with Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana. Azealia took to Twitter this weekend, calling out D&G’s Summer 2013 collection for being racist and voicing plans to boycott the company.
"Whoever designed that racist ass Dolce and Gabanna collection needs a swift kick in the mouth and a big d--- up the ass," she wrote on Saturday (October 20), adding, "I really hate when people do corny, racist things then try to justify it as "art. It's all just really unnecessary. the clothes in the collection were fine without all the "black mammie" imagery."
The new line features images of black women wearing burlap dresses and plantation-era cornucopias on their head. But according to Dolce & Gabbana representatives the imagery used is said to be inspired by their Sicilian roots. Banks isn’t buying into this though. She said the images used of black women in some of D&G’s new items were reminiscent of Jim Crow imagery. And she will not support or buy any new Dolce & Gabanna products.
