Chrisette Michele On Her New Look: I Became A Vegan, Un-Afraid To Show My True Self

0

Chrisette Michele took a much-needed break from the music industry. What’s she been up to? Glad you asked! The Grammy award-winning songstress travelled the roads of Amsterdam, Brussels, London and Paris. Chrisette found herself retracing the footsteps of the fashion and film icon, Audrey Hepburn. Her experiences gave birth to her upcoming project, “Audrey Hepburn : An Audiovisual Presentation” –an eclectic piece for her fans which will be ready for free release on her birthday December 8th.
Her new look is much more than fabulous but it’s a drastic change for Chrisette. I know you beauties are just as curious as I am, so I asked her why the change?
I took some time off to travel and cleanse. I became vegan over that time of introspection and decided to be un-afraid to show my true self with my art. I’ve decided to style myself from now on, and express my ideas and points of view the way I choose. Paris reminded me that it’s ok to wear my “art” on my sleeve. I call this new sense of self, of being, of creativity “Rich Hipster”. I’m rich in heart and rich in art.
- Chrisette Michele
Her style is just… fantabulous, and to learn that she is now styling herself I’m a totally a stan. Here’s a peek at the photo shoot portion of her presentation taken with the brown skin photography guru, Derek Blanks. Chrisette reveals her tattoos on her right and left shoulders for the first time ever with.
I see you Chrisette. Stylin’ on these girls! I love the idea of finding your true self. I imagine the struggle of many artists who have teams telling them how to look, dress, and what kind of image they should have. I applaud Chrisette for finding the courage to make moves on her own terms! Can’t wait to listen to her new stuff.

Stacey Dash Poses With Paul Ryan, Continues To Endorse Romney

0

Last week Stacey Dash went out early to cast her vote for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, even though she received death threats after initially tweeting her support for him. Now she's following up with a photo of herself and Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan, posing in front of an American flag.
"Fighting the good fight. Godspeed. @reppaulryan @MittRomney #Romney/Ryan20" she wrote on Twitter Monday evening, along with the above photo. And that's not all, she also included a blog post to further explains her reasons for supporting the pair.
"I believe that Governor Mitt Romney believes in the American people. That we can be self evident, that we are capable of achieving the American dream. That there is enough for everyone. I believe that because he has proven his ability to lead, and his ability to be excellent as a CEO and as the Governor of Massachusetts. Governor Romney is the best choice to be our next President. He has achieved the American dream, he knows how to lead us the American people to realize our potential. By creating 12 million jobs, giving equal work for equal pay,by giving incentives and cutting loopholes, by keeping us safe and strong as a country of Super Power."
Fans and celebrities alike have been a bit, er, alarmed by Dash's fierce Republican endorsement.
In an interview with The Grio Vivica A. Fox shared her opinion on the matter. “I don’t know why she [Stacey Dash] had to do a photo shoot in a Baywatch red swimsuit with the boobs and the whole flag behind her," Fox said. "And she doesn’t have a job or something to promote right now? I just didn’t get it. She’s entitled to her own opinion but it was just surprising that first of all she was a Republican, and that she did it the way that she did. Most politicians when you support them, you try to support them with class, you don’t need to do a swimsuit shoot.”

Nicki Minaj Looks ‘Va Va Voom’ In New Video

0

Nicki Minaj stays true to her word on rolling out more singles from sophomore album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. In new visuals for "Va Va Voom," Minaj shows off her acting chops, playing various fairy tale characters including a damsel in distress [sort of]. White unicorns and handsome villains are just mild themes throughout the video compared to past visuals.
Earlier this month, she dished to MTV News about plans to re-release her sophomore album, titled Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded- The Re-Up. “I can't treat it like my stepchild just yet, but there's new kids on the way, so I kind of wanted to be fair to the old songs and be fair to the new songs." The re-release will feature bonus tracks including the Cassie-assisted song ‘The Boys’, which is the first single. The YMCMB rapper is quite the female powerhouse with new American Idol gig and launch of first  perfume, .

First & Last Lady: President Obama Claims Black America Wants To “Keep” Michelle Obama

0

President Obama is making his media rounds as much as his beautiful other half, Michelle Obama. I know I’ve boasted about the FLOTUS chatting with our brother site, NewsOne in an intimate interview and Michelle also wrote NewsOne an exclusive Op-Ed, but it was radio personality and White House correspondent, April Ryan who’s got something to boast about.
Ryan scored a coveted interview with the President and during their 14 minute chat, she discussed urban and minority issues with President Obama. Check out some of the highlights from the interview, including President Obama’s typical “big ups” to his better half, Michelle.
On the state of Black America:
“We’ve got a long way to go, but we’ve certainly made progress from the time I came into office and we were seeing the worst crisis since The Great Depression. African American unemployment was at 16 percent, it’s not dropped to 13 percent. It’s still too high and I am going to spend all of my waking hours over the next four years, making sure that anybody in America, willing to work hard, can find a job. We know that these problems didn’t happen overnight. They’ve been building up for decades.”
On numbers slipping with women:
“April, I don’t know what you’re looking at because we’re doing very strong among women, across demographic groups. Women understand the stakes in this election as well as anybody. I stand for women controlling their own healthcare choices. Governor Romney wants to put those choices in the hands of politicians, most of whom are male. I support equal pay for equal work, Governor Romney says, ‘I’ll get back to you on that.’ I support making sure that in the healthcare bill that I passed, that women are able to get contraceptive care from their insurers and insurance companies aren’t charging women more than men for health insurance. Governor Romney wants to repeal the whole act. That’s the reason we have consistently led substantially among and we continue to. I suspect that on Election Day, everyone will see that we’ve outperformed Mr. Romney with women in a substantial way.
On why Black America should vote for him:
“Other than the fact that I know Black America wants to keep Michelle as First Lady, I spend everyday in this Oval Office, thinking about how to ensure America can continue to be a land of opportunity for everybody. My track record in the last four years in preventing a great depression, saving an auto industry, passing healthcare reform that’s going to provide millions of people health insurance that didn’t have it before and protect them from insurance companies that are disadvantaging them, passing Wall Street reform so we don’t have taxpayer funded buy outs, also so we have a consumer advocate that prevent predatory lending and people being taken advantage of when it comes to mortgaging, or credit cards or pay day loans–all of which disproportionately effect the Black community…”
On his five-point plan:
“What I’ve done is put forward a very specific plan.
Number one, returning manufacturing to our shores by giving tax breaks to companies here instead of tax breaks to companies making profits and shipping jobs overseas.
Number two, I want to make sure we have the best education system in the world and through our race to the top and our expansion of student loans and grants, we have provided real guidance and direction on how we’re going to prepare our young people for the future. And make sure that African Americans who are working hard in school can afford to go to college.
Number three, we’ve got to make sure that we control our own energy. We’ve brought oil imports down significantly, doubling fuel efficiency standards on cars, we’re producing clean energy, wind and solar–all these things create jobs, save people money at the gas pump and help us grow economically.
Number four, I want to make sure we don’t reduce our deficit on the backs of middle class people and the poor. That means we have to ask the wealthiest people to pay a little bit more taxes.
Number five, we ended the war in Iraq, we’re winding down the war in Afghanistan, let’s take some of that money we’re not spending on war and put people back to work by rebuilding roads, bridges, schools and hospitals. Let’s train our young people to get those jobs.
If we move forward on the course that I’ve laid out, I’m confident the economy will grow faster and African American unemployment and unemployment across the board will go down. What we can’t do is go back to the misguided policies of Mr. Romney–which is basically a repeat of the policies of George Bush.”

Beyonce's Obama Earrings Are A Big Hit

Last week Beyonce sported a pair of "Obama" earrings during a casual outing in New York City and, not unexpectedly, they're now a very in-demand item. Sales of the gold hoop earrings, designed by Erika Pena have apparently skyrocketed since Bey wore them in NYC.
According to TMZ, Pena had only sold 5 pairs of the earrings until Beyonce decided to wear them, and now she's well over 1, 300 pairs sold. Pena says that the orders have been local as well as international, with orders coming in from countries like Argentina and Switzerland, with a high concentration coming from London.
Beyonce and Jay-Z have been very involved in President Obama's reelection campaign, raising $4 million during a recent fundraiser.
In February, the 31-year-old star is set to perform at the Super Bowl XLVII halftime show. This will mark Beyoncé's first halftime performance, but she did sing the national anthem at Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004 in her native Houston, when the New England Patriots took on and defeated the Carolina Panthers.

Kim Kardashian And Kanye West, Diddy And Cassie Step Out For Halloween

0

Last week Kim Kardashian shared a Halloween picture of herself and Kanye West all dressed up while filming a pilot and this week the couple stepped out in NYC for the holiday. Technically, Kim was the one who dressed up and Kanye managed to get by in a fairly normal getup as a "captain."
Kardashian's costume was inspired by Darryl Hannah's mermaid from the film "Splash," and included a long blond wig and a seashell top. And to complete her costume, she had Kanye West as her "captain." Kardashian tweeted a photo of the two of them together, writing "Me & my captain," before the two attended the 2nd Annual Midori Green Halloween Party in New York.
Kimye wasn't the only couple doing it up for Halloween. Diddy seems to have made a full recovery from his recent car accident, partying at the playboy mansion dressed as Prince. Cassie, who dressed up as a sexy Cleopatra, tweeted a photo of herself and Diddy, with the caption "Cleopatra & Prince! Happy Halloween!!!! #turnup."

Jaden Smith Taps Pal Justin Bieber For ‘Love Me Like You Do

follow @MelodyLY in twitter
Born into Hollywood royalty, Will Smith’s son, Jaden Smith, is literally following in his father’s footsteps. From acting (known for his role in "The Karate Kid") to rapping, Jaden shows off a more vulnerable side in his latest song ‘Love Me Like You Do’. With a little vocal assistance from his buddy Justin Bieber, Jaden expresses his needs of wanting to me loved a certain way.
Who would’ve thought the 14-year-old had bars with lyrics like, “We can take the car to your apartment up the street, if you want to get it started ‘cause my heart is what you need. And it’s really up to you there baby girl and that’s for me. Put your hand up on waist and I’ll let you take the lead.”
But this isn’t the first time the 14-year-old showed his vulnerable side on wax. The young actor/rapper channeled Drake in a ‘Marvin’s Room’ type confessional on ‘Starry Room’, where he apologizes to all the women he dated for his past ways.
