Known for her being a little bit more edgy style wise, Solange Knowles can no longer be seen as just Beyoncé’s little sister. Gearing up for her new release, Solange stepped out in SoHo last night, where she hosted an intimate listening party at a small studio for her upcoming album True.
Amidst her eccentric crew and small group of press, big sister Bey and big brother Jay also made guest appearances. Following her four-year hiatus from music, the singer has kept quite busy, songwriting, DJ’ing throughout New York City, and being a fashion powerhouse. According to Rap-Up, the album was “energetic, fresh, and creative, an amalgamation of nostalgic influences from the greats, with a twist of the contemporary beats that would make The Neptunes jealous.”
Earlier this month, the singer headed over to Cape Town, South Africa where she shot visuals for the album’s first single, Losing You. Directed by Melina Matsoukas (most notably known for her work on Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love’), Solange explained to Pitchforkthat “When Melina and I decided to film ‘Losing You’ in South Africa, we really didn’t have a real firm concept in place.” She went on to explain the video as “grab a camera and let’s go moment".
